If you can’t
repair, refurbish, or reuse your computer and its accessories, the next best thing is
to recycle it!
Computer
equipment consists of valuable resources (like precious
metals, copper, and specially engineered plastics), all of which require considerable
energy to manufacture. Recycling this equipment recovers valuable
materials, conserves resources, and results in lower environmental
emissions, including greenhouse gases.
For a small per item fee you can now employ RCG's Recycling Program to get rid of excess,
outdated, and broken computer equipment. Upon receipt of the equipment, your
data is eradicated in compliance with data security legislation and all items
recycled through RCG are disposed of in the safest manner possible per EPA
guidelines; never in landfills.
Some of the Laws Affecting Data Security:

Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) - Companies must establish and maintain
an adequate internal control structure. Procedures and processes
must be in place to continuously assess the effectiveness of those
internal controls.

Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA) - Specifically targeting financial
data, businesses are required to ensure the security and confidentiality
of customer records and information that could result in substantial
harm to public relations and their customer base.

Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) - All
organizations must ensure confidentiality of health records and other
related information. This is true for medical institutions with
patient information as well as employee records within any organization.

Fair & Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) - Under the
Disposal Rule, an addition to FACTA that took effect on June 1, 2005,
businesses must institute appropriate disposal practices and take the
necessary steps to prevent the unauthorized access or use of discarded
information derived from consumer reports.
